Auction design to use flexibility potentials in the energy - Intensive industry

In the present paper, we propose auction designs to use flexibility potentials in the energy intensive industry. More specifically, we investigate a large chemical industrial site, which consists of several small production facilities. Given data of the potential energy flexibility of these facilities, we analyse which auctions could be used to make the production managers change their operational decisions from a pure production schedule focus to a more energy usage based focus that supports an energy grid with high renewable energy penetration.
